Black-poser Rachel Dolezal booked on welfare fraud, other charges after $84,000 income was revealed

Rachel Dolezal, the white woman who infamously posed as a black woman for years, was booked on charges of welfare fraud.

The former Spokane NAACP president, who changed her name to Nkechi Diallo in 2016, was booked and released after being fingerprinted at a Washington jail on Monday, charged with first-degree theft by welfare fraud, making false verification and second-degree perjury, according to Fox News.

Diallo pleaded not guilty to the charges last month and was free until Monday when she had been ordered by the judge to report to the Spokane County jail for booking and fingerprinting.

As Rachel Dolezal, she became a viral celebrity after her parents outed her as white although she had touted herself as a black activist for years, serving as Spokane NAACP president, teaching African studies at nearby Eastern Washington University and writing for a weekly newspaper in Spokane – all positions she lost after the controversy.

An investigation begun in 2017 reviewed Diallo’s records and found that she was falsely claiming her income as  less than $500 per month, making her eligible for state welfare and food assistance. But a subpoena of her bank statements and other records revealed nearly $84,000 in income made from 2015 to 2017.

Diallo allegedly did not report to the state Department of Social and Health Services the income which came from proceeds from her autobiography, “In Full Color,” from speaking engagements and sales of home-made products.

She reportedly received more than $8,800 in food and childcare assistance between August 2015 and November 2017, court documents said according to Fox News. Court records also showed that Diallo did report a one-time job in October 2017 worth $20,000.

Diallo’s trial is set for September 10.
