V is for vacate: House Republicans, fed up with rogue Ryan’s fecklessness, are doing something about it

Rep. Steve King revealed in an interview this week that some House Republicans have been maneuvering to forcibly remove House Speaker Paul Ryan from his post.

“[T]here are I’ll say ‘members’ — I say that plurally — that are considering introducing a motion to vacate the chair. If they do that, that will throw this place into a tizzy and force the kind of election for a Speaker that may bring out someone who is a lot stronger on this,” he said during a lengthy interview Wednesday with Breitbart.

Why do they seek the House speaker’s ouster? In part because of his fecklessness, which King noted grew worse after Ryan announced his retirement in April.

“From the time that Paul Ryan announced that he would be retiring at the end of this Congress, his juice has been diminished day by day by day,” he said.

House Republicans also take issue with Ryan’s treacherous behavior, which includes dismissing President Donald Trump’s concerns about the Obama administration’s spying and voting against a farm bill that would have imposed work requirements on food stamps.

The House speaker’s latest treachery involves announcing his intention to bring two amnesty bills up for vote next week.

“He has less power, less influence, and yet he’s still leading us into this amnesty piece,” King added. “People are acting like he’s the Speaker of the House who will be deciding who can chair which committees, who can be seated on which committees, and whose bills move forward in the next Congress. But that will not be the case.”

For a man slated to leave office in less than a year, Ryan seems hellbent on pushing through his agenda, no matter how much that agenda contradicts the president’s promises to the American people.

Consider for instance the House speaker’s refusal to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, one of the key players responsible for special counsel Robert Mueller’s widely panned investigation into the president.

“If you have a speaker of the House exercising leadership, the majority leader, and they say Roseinstein’s gotta go, they can marshal support of the Congress,” Rep. Matt Gaetz pointed out during an appearance Friday evening on Fox News alongside Rep. Ron DeSantis.

But Ryan refuses to take any action against Rosenstein. Watch the video below to see how Gaetz replied when Judge Jeanine Pirro asked him why:

“Have him on your show,” Gaetz replied.

Pirro replied that she’ll try to get him on, but many Americans, who have lost all trust in the speaker, would likely call that an exercise in futility.
