Fed-up Trump uses this week’s radio address to crack down on ‘the resistance’

President Donald Trump is fed up with the self-serving antics of  Senate Democrats, who he said have “shamelessly obstructed” hundreds of qualified nominees through the confirmation process.

In his weekly radio address, Trump called out this politically motivated “resistance.”

“Senate Democrats call it ‘The Resistance,'” the president began. “They’re resisting the will of the American voter and it is not good.”

“From day one,” Trump said, “Senate Democrats have shamelessly obstructed, stalled, and filibustered the confirmations of hundreds of talented men and women who are eager to come to Washington, D.C., to make a difference. They want to serve our country.”

The obstruction being historic, according to Trump, who said there are still more than 300 nominees awaiting a vote.

“My nominees faced a longer average confirmation weight than any in the history of our country,” he said.

Research from The Washington Post and the Partnership for Public Service shows on average, an Obama nominee took 67 days to be confirmed, compared to 86 days for a Trump nominee.

A graphic from CNN shows that, as of December 31, 2017, Trump’s nominees lagging behind his last two predecessors.

President Trump called the Democrats tactics “a disgrace,” and added that they are also “blocking urgently needed improvements to our border security.”

“They’ve blocked every effort to close deadly loopholes to keep out vicious criminals and to stop the flow of illegal immigrants and drugs,” Trump said. “These actions are endangering our citizens threatening our communities and undermining our national security.”

The president called on Democrats to stop resisting the will of the American people, but with the media firmly in their corner, don’t expect that to happen anytime soon.
