ABC cancels Roseanne show with scathing statement, cast member sounds off as reaction pours in

Roseanne Barr’s controversial tweet about former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett has led to the cancellation of her show on ABC.

The network announced Tuesday that it has decided to cancel the sitcom’s reboot after the actress tweeted, then deleted, remarks that Jarrett was the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement, according to ABC.

After several tweets sparked a firestorm of backlash, Barr deleted the tweet about Jarrett and apologized, saying the comments were made in “bad taste.”

Contributing producer on “Roseanne,” Wanda Sykes had just announced she would not be coming back for the show’s second revival season due to the controversial tweet.

Sara Gilbert, who plays Barr’s daughter on the show, reacted to the news and appeared to put some distance between the cast and the show’s namesake star.

Barr’s critics celebrated the news and praised ABC for its swift action while also finding a way to bash President Trump.

But many defended the star and blasted the double standard that seems always evident in an increasingly divided nation.
