President Trump believes it’s time to finally “get the whole package” on immigration reform and said he will not be approving any DACA bills unless they include provisions for “a real wall” at the border.
Speaking exclusively with Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” Wednesday following a roundtable in New York on the threat from MS-13, Trump said he is “watching one or two” of four different bills going through the House in an effort to get legislation to fix the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
“Unless it includes a wall, and I mean a wall, a real wall, and unless it includes very strong border security, there’ll be no approvals from me, because I have to either approve it or not,” the president told Fox News host Brian Kilmeade after his roundtable at the Morrelly Homeland Security Center in Bethpage.
“We’ll see what happens. But I can tell you there is a move right now to get better, strong border security,” he added, but nixed the idea of a lottery system for immigrants.
“Well, a lottery is ridiculous, you know. I mean, they take people from the lottery where you can imagine these countries are not putting their finest in that lottery, so I don’t like the lottery,” Trump said. “Chain migration is a disaster, and you look at what’s going on where somebody comes in who’s bad and yet they’ll have 23 members of a family, not one of them do you want in this country. So chain migration is terrible, the lottery is terrible, we certainly would like to have it end.”
The president noted that the U.S. has “the worst immigration laws in the entire world, by far.”
“Other countries laugh at us, and it’s because of the Democrats. It’s because of Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi,” he added.
“If there’s a deal that doesn’t include those two things, but has the wall and DACA, does Donald Trump do that deal?” Kilmeade asked.
“I think it’s time to get the whole package if it’s not such a big deal, Brian. It’s time to get the whole package,” Trump replied.
The president doubled down on comments he had made referring to members of MS-13 gangs as “animals,” remarks that earned him a wave of criticism as liberals chose not to hear that he was referring to the gangs and not all immigrants.
“These are vicious killers and they shouldn’t be allowed into the country. The laws are horrible. We’re bringing them out by the thousands, as you know, they’re setting records. It’s just a record that I’m not even – I don’t even like talking about because it’s so ridiculous. They shouldn’t be in the country,” Trump told Kilmeade.
“The Democrats are sticking up for MS-13 – you heard Nancy Pelosi the other day, right, trying to find all sorts of reasons they should be able to stay. These are stone cold killers – vicious killers,” he said.
