Brother of Parkland victim launches eye-opening question about media’s coverage of Santa Fe shooting

Hunter Pollack, whose sister, Meadow, was one of the 17 people killed during the February shooting in Parkland, Florida, posed an eye-opening question about the difference in media coverage between that tragedy and the shooting in Santa Fe, Texas, which claimed 10 lives.

Whereas the media triumphed a handful of students from Stoneman Douglas High School, turning them into national celebrities because the children were so quick to not only call for gun control, but to outright attack the NRA, even calling the group “child murderers,” there has been scant attention paid to students at Santa Fe High School.

Taking to social media, Hunter tweeted:

“The people of Santa Fe are getting a lot less media coverage than parkland, I can’t decide if it’s:

-The agenda doesn’t fit what the media loves pushing best

-The people of Texas don’t want to be taken advantage of like seen in the past.”

Ironically, Hunter was snubbed by his pro-gun-control classmates during the highly touted March for our Lives rally in Washington, D.C. The reason for this is very likely because the student and his father, Andrew Pollack, have been outspoken advocates of increased school security and arming teachers, although rally organizers claimed it was due to “miscommunication.”

As in, Hunter was not communicating the accepted gun control narrative.

In a second tweet, the son noted his father is currently in Santa Fe, spending time with the families of the victims.

One of the Texas students who has been interviewed was Erin Werner, 16, a National Honor Society student and longtime Gilr Scout who volunteers at her local church.

Her message mimics the views of Hunter and his father.

“If you can’t trust the teachers with a way to protect us, who are you going to trust?” Erin told USA Today. “Even with the best police force ever, you can’t get there fast enough.”

Not that some of the Santa Fe students didn’t take to social media to call for change, but for some reason they have not been celebrated in the same way liberal Parkland students David Hogg and Emma Gonzalez have been.

Of all the responses to Hunter’s tweet, a recurring theme was the choice of weapons the gunman used in Texas, a shotgun and handgun, which doesn’t fit the media’s gun control narrative.

If an AR-15 had been used, odds are a different reaction would have been seen, all of which suggests the media places different values on victims of shootings, according to how useful the details are in advancing their agenda.
