Rep. Jim Jordan and other House Republicans are asking President Trump to intervene in stonewalling by the Department of Justice.
The Ohio lawmaker is “tired of the run around” by the Justice Department in turning over documents connected to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
Along with GOP Reps. Mark Meadows of North Carolina and Ron DeSantis of Florida, Jordan has asked the president to force the DOJ to turn over documents that have been previously requested related to potential FISA abuse, the Russia probe and more.
“We’re tired of the run around we’ve been getting from the Department of Justice,” Jordan said on Fox News’ “Hannity” on Wednesday.
“It’s time for them to turn over the information. And the one way that we know that can happen is for the head of the executive branch, the president of the United States elected by the American people, to tell the attorney general, the deputy attorney general and the FBI director, give Congress – a separate and equal branch of the government – what they’re entitled to see,” Jordan explained.
Meadows and Jordan, leaders of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, as well as DeSantis urged Trump in a letter to demand that Attorney General Jeff Sessions immediately turn over the documents.
It’s high time for transparency. The DOJ and FBI have continually and repeatedly thwarted congressional oversight. We’re asking @realDonaldTrump to direct the Attorney General to give us the documents—because the American people deserve answers. pic.twitter.com/aigq97jm7A

“We write to request that you exercise your authority as president of the United States to instruct Attorney General Jeff Sessions to immediately produce all documents requested by Congress relating to our investigation of certain prosecutorial and investigative decisions made by the Department of Justice and FBI in 2016 and 2017,” the Republicans wrote in the letter dated Tuesday.
DOJ leadership has obstructed Congressional oversight for long enough. @Jim_Jordan @RepDeSantis and I asked POTUS to instruct the DOJ to release ALL relevant documents on potential FISA abuse, the initial investigation of the Trump campaign, and more.

The wrangling with DOJ & Rosenstein has gone on for too long. I’ve joined my colleagues to ask the President to declassify & release all relevant documents re: the investigation targeting the Trump campaign. This is the only way the American people can achieve accountability. pic.twitter.com/3LoLMXYrZh

“To complete our independent oversight and investigative duties, we must obtain all documents responsive to previous requests by Congress,” the letter stated, adding that the DOJ has “obstructed Congressional oversight by refusing to supply necessary and relevant documents.”
