Former Broward County sheriff’s deputy Scot Peterson, the Stoneman Douglas High School resource officer who remained outside as a gunman killed 17 people, has now started collecting a substantial pension, to the tune of $8,702 dollars a month.
Peterson was thrown under the bus by Sheriff Scott Israel, who said at the time that the deputy should have “went in. Addressed the killer. Killed the killer.”
President Donald Trump said Peterson either froze under pressure or was a “coward,” who “didn’t have the courage” to go in.

When told he was going to be suspended without pay pending an investigation into his actions, the 33-year law enforcement veteran opted to retire, which comes with a hefty pension that Peterson started receiving in April, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
But then, it seems the 55-year-old Petersen, who’ll receive the pension for the rest of his life, is accustomed to hefty compensation, given last year’s income of $101,879.03, according to the newspaper.

Peterson claimed he heard gun shots, but thought they were coming from outside the school. Either way, the parents of the 15 students killed that day will wonder for the rest of their lives if their child may still be alive today had Peterson chose to act differently.
Parents such as Andrew Pollack, whose daughter, Meadow, was killed that day.
I am not doing this to get famous, I am doing this so no family ever again has to feel the way my family feels. There are no excuses! We must have proper security in every school in America! I will not stop until that is accomplished. We must #FixIt! #MeadowsMovement pic.twitter.com/Hz6v9S9vrI

“This guy is a disgrace. It doesn’t change when he looks in the mirror. Pollack told the Sun-Sentinel. “He’s a disgrace and a coward.”
Pollack, who has filed a wrongful death suit in Broward Circuit Court against Peterson for not entering the building during the massacre, also took to Twitter to condemn him.
“The coward of [B]roward, Scot Peterson is getting over $8k a month pension! He hid while my daughter and 16 others were slaughtered! How in the hell is he getting this? That money should go to actually securing our schools! #FixIt,” the tweet read.

A second father, Fred Guttenberg, whose lost his daughter Jaime that tragic day, also expressed his disgust via Twitter.
“This infuriates me in ways people cannot comprehend,” the grieving father tweeted. “My daughter would still be alive if this person did his job.”
