More than 15 months after becoming first lady, Melania Trump will be unveiling her formal platform focusing on the “overall well-being of children.”
Trump is expected to unveil the initiatives she plans to pursue as first lady during a Rose Garden event on Monday, CNN reported.
The first lady has already made cyber-bullying prevention a priority during her tenure as well as the focusing on effects of opioid abuse on newborns, tying in to the federal response to the opioid epidemic. But her spokeswoman explained that Trump will be broadening that platform in her scheduled announcement Monday.
“As has been evidenced by the many events Mrs. Trump has participated in during her time as first lady, her focus will be the overall well-being of children. Something unique though: She has not narrowed her platform down to just one topic as has been done in the past,” Stephanie Grisham told CNN.
“Mrs. Trump wishes to help the next generation by creating change through awareness on a variety of issues that affect children,” she said.
Moving to the White House in June after her husband, President Donald Trump took office in 2017, the first lady has taken a bot longer than her predecessors on settling on a definitive initiative, CNN reported. Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” was unveiled 11 months after becoming first lady, in February 2010 and Laura Bush launched “Ready to Read, Ready to Learn,” in July of her first year as first lady.
Trump has already involved herself with events focused on children, visiting children’s hospitals in the U.S. as well as abroad.

She has encouraged random acts of kindness with children in mind.

She has also spoken to children about dealing with negativity and self-esteem when she visited schools like a middle school in Michigan last October.
“I always believe that you need to treat each other with respect and kindness and compassion, but also stay true to yourself. Just listen to your heart, but be yourself,” she told them.
Earlier this month, Trump hosted a group of middle school students at the White House, inviting them to write about their feelings.

The first lady made headlines for her compassionate reaction when one of the children accidentally spilled his drink.

During a cyber safety discussion at the White House in March, Trump spoke with a group of tech company leaders, including Twitter, Facebook, Google and Snaphat, acknowledging the skepticism she faced when announcing her plan to tackle cyber-bullying.
“I am well aware that people are skeptical of me discussing this topic,” Trump said. “I have been criticized for my commitment to tackling this issue and I know that will continue. But it will not stop me from doing what I know is right.”
