A major gun fight is about to break out in the Chicago suburb of Deerfield, Illinois.
In their quest for gun control, liberals are known to say they’re not coming for your guns, as former President Barack Obama noted at a town hall meeting in June 2016, when he declared, “[A]t no point have I ever, ever proposed confiscating guns from responsible gun owners.”
But that’s precisely what the city of Deerfield is doing after passing an amendment to its gun ordinance to ban certain semi-automatic firearms, to include AR-15s, ABC 7 reported.
The ordinance gives a detailed description of banned semi-automatic rifles, which includes rifles with a high-capacity magazine that holds more than 10 rounds.
The amendment references the Parkland, Fla., high school shooting earlier this year, and all but mocks the U.S. Constitution:
“the possession, manufacture and sale of assault weapons in the Village of Deerfield is not reasonable necessary to protect an individual’s right of self-defense or the preservation of efficiency of a well-regulated militia…
It would seem that in Illinois, municipal bureaucrats will now determine what your rights are, the Constitution be damned.
Residents will face a fine up to $1,000 a day if they fail to surrender such weapons by mid-June.

“This is oppression,” resident James Smith told the board. “This is putting your thumbs on people and saying you are unworthy.”
The Deerfield ordinance, patterned after a nearby Highland Park ban that survived a Supreme Court challenge in 2015, according to ABC 7, is intended to establish a trend.
“If Highland Park, if Deerfield, if more towns say no to this type of weapon, maybe the state of Illinois says no,” Deerfield Village Manager Kent Street admitted. “Maybe the Federal government says no.”
Deerfield Mayor Harriet Rosenthal echoed that sentiment in a press release.
“We hope that our local decision helps spur state and national leaders to take steps to make our communities safer,” the mayor stated.
The reaction online was swift, with many social media users challenging the legality of the ordinance, suggesting the town is in for some costly court battles.
Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
Must remove or get a fine of $1000.00 a day…. how do you know who has one? You don’t. Guns aren’t registered in Illinois. What will it be next? Semi auto handguns?? Lol way to go. Town is less safe now

But this can’t be because Democrats promised they did not want to ban or seize guns from law abiding citizens. https://t.co/MAjrgx4JFI
