Trump hires aggressive new attorney. Here’s why he’s so special …

President Donald Trump has added “an aggressive voice” to his legal team amid his recent criticism of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe of collusion with Russia.

Former U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia Joe diGenova, no shrinking violet, has been hired, The New York Times reported, although he is not expected to take a lead role.

Jay Sekulow, one of the president’s personal lawyers, tole The Times diGenova “will be joining our legal team later this week.”

“I have worked with Joe for many years,” Sekulow said, “and have full confidence that he will be a great asset in our representation of the President.”

The paper said the former prosecutor who called former FBI director James Comey “America’s best known dirty cop,” has “pushed the theory on television that the F.B.I. and Justice Department framed Mr. Trump.”

“There was a brazen plot to illegally exonerate Hillary Clinton and, if she didn’t win the election, to then frame Donald Trump with a falsely created crime,” diGenova is quoted saying on Fox News in January.

“Make no mistake about it: A group of F.B.I. and D.O.J. people were trying to frame Donald Trump of a falsely created crime.”

The Washington Post declared the president hired “a deep-state conspiracy theorist.”

Trump tweeted Saturday: “The Mueller probe should never have been started in that there was no collusion and there was no crime.”

President Trump’s personal lawyer, John Dowd, called on the Justice Department to end the special counsel investigation and there has been plenty of speculation that the president may fire Mueller.

Amid the uproar over former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe being fired, Fox News contributor Byron York doesn’t think that will happen, saying instead Trump is “taking a page out of the Bill Clinton handbook.”

“I think there is an important point here about the president,” he said Monday. “He is not threatening to fire Mueller, but he is clearly trying to discredit Mueller.”

As for McCabe, diGenova said “he deserved what he got.”

“Let’s remember who Andrew McCabe was,” he said Monday during an interview on WMAL’s “Mornings on the Mall.”

“He was the guy who was the head of the brazen plot to exonerate Hillary Clinton so that she could become president of the United States,” diGenova opined. “And then if she couldn’t win the election, to make sure that Donald Trump was ensnared in a phony investigation, which has occurred. That was McCabe’s idea.”
