It looks like Democrats understand the Second Amendment, after all.
Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.) told constituents during a town hall meeting that the way to oppose President Trump, if he acts unlawfully, is by using the “Second Amendment” against him.
“I mean, this is where the Second Amendment comes in quite frankly, because you know, what if the president was to ignore the courts?” Suozzi said. “What would you do? What would we do?”
The lawmaker was responding to a question from a member of the audience who asked about the system of checks and balances and what the Constitution directs in the case the president does not follow a “mandate” from Congress.
Following his remark, Suozzi was asked what the Second Amendment is.

“The Second Amendment is the right to bear arms,” the Democrat explained. “That’s why we have it.”
Suozzi added that it’s “really a matter of putting public pressure on the president” and “it’s probably about going to the courts.”
The National Republican Congressional Committee spoke out against the comment, Fox News reports.
“When resistance and obstruction don’t work out, Tom Suozzi proposes violence,” NRCC spokesman Chris Martin said in a statement. “He’s completely out of touch.”

Kim Devlin, a representative for Suozzi, denied that the congressman was promoting violence against President Trump.
“Taking a page from such great Americans as Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton, Congressman Suozzi explained why our founding fathers created the Second Amendment as a way for citizens to fight back against a tyrannical government that does not follow the rule of law,” she said.
Devin added that “to suggest his comments meant anything else or that he was advocating for an armed insurrection against the existing president is both irresponsible and ridiculous.”

According to the New York Post, Suozzi’s reelection campaign later forwarded a message to voters that appeared to double down on the “Second Amendment” comment with a quote from Thomas Jefferson:
“What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms.”
Suozzi has advocated gun control in the wake of last month’s shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. The Democrat joined students at a pro-gun control rally outside the US Capitol last week.

On social media, Suozzi was censured for seemingly hinting at armed rebellion against the president.
Dem Congressman says use “Second Amendment” to resist Trump.
Less than a year after a crazed left-wing lunatic shot up a Republican baseball practice, why are we still hearing this rhetoric?https://t.co/3H5vlZsocC

Fomenting Insurrection. Still a crime, or no? Why, I do believe advocating for an armed takeover of the legitimate US Government meets the criteria of the word being bandied about so much lately. Treason.

Wouldn’t this be considered “hate speech”? Kind of confused if it’s not.

Take up arms?? Isn’t his party against the 2A? Perhaps he means that folks should arm themselves with knives, rocks, sticks, bats, etc. Regardless, whatever “they” use will pale in comparison to what 2A folks will be armed with!

And yet, when you tell a liberal that the intent of the 2A was to protect against government excess, they laugh and call you crazy. Until it suits their agenda.

Constant threats towards the president. Shameful media does not care.

Agreed. The fact there was someone there who had to ask what the 2nd amendment was is frightening. I pray for our nation everyday.
