Chuck Todd responds to Trump’s ‘sleepy SOB’ remark, then he makes the mistake of revisiting it on air

President Donald Trump was in his element Saturday at a rally in Pennsylvania and supporters were not disappointed as he took a jab at NBC News’ Chuck Todd, calling him a “sleepy son of a bitch.”

Trump was discussing North Korea when he referenced a 1999 interview he did on NBC’s “Meet the Press” calling for an aggressive policy toward the country.

“Meet the Press, a show now headed by sleepy-eyes Chuck Todd,” he told the crowd. “He is a sleepy son of a bitch, I’ll tell you.”

Well, Todd didn’t waste much time responding, proving that, a) he’s adept at making lemonade out of a lemon, or b) he’s a shill for ratings.

The host of “Meet The Press” used the occasion to put in a coy plug for Sunday’s show.

“Don’t miss @MeetThePress tomorrow!” Todd tweeted. “I know folks may be tired in the morning due to springing forward, so set those clocks and DVRs now before your eyes get too sleepy.”

Of course, Trump’s remark took center stage on Sunday’s show when Todd used it to  box in Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, trying to get the Trump administration official to criticize his boss.

Or embarrass the administration.

“Many people including myself raise their kids to respect the office of the presidency,” Todd said, clearly perturbed by Trump’s assessment of him. “When he uses vulgarity to talk about individuals, what are they supposed to tell their kids?”

“I’ll be with my kids this morning,” Mnuchin said. “And I’ll be focusing them on what the president is doing to protect the United States, it’s citizens.”

Todd continued to lecture about role models, but Mnuchin said his focus is on policy, though he did note that “there were a lot of funny moments on that rally.”

“Yeah, they were hilarious,” the butt of one such moment quipped sarcastically.
