What country music just did to Mike Huckabee is painful to watch; made him resign from his position

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee spoke out Friday on resigning from the Country Music Association Foundation board of directors because of opposition to his religious views on same sex marriage and a “deep involvement” with the NRA.

In effect, Huckabee is being ostracized for his faith and his traditional beliefs.

Appearing on Fox News’ “The Story,” Huckabee said his invitation to be a member of the CMA board was based on a commitment to encouraging young people to take an interest in music.

He said people were unhappy because of both his politics and his faith, adding that he resigned because he did not want to be a distraction.

“This is the world we live in today,” the Republican politician said.

Huckabee wrote in his letter of resignation that he regrets his critics in the industry “bullied the CMA and the Foundation with economic threats and vowed to withhold support for the programs for students if I remained.”

“If the industry doesn’t want people of faith or who hold conservative and traditional political views to buy tickets and music, they should be forthcoming and say it,” said the letter.

Host Martha MacCallum noted that Huckabee was effectively being run out-of-town.

“I think that when single issues divide people, where it become a blockage to working together on any project, I think that that’s a sad state of affairs,” she said. “I think that there are hot button issues and if you don’t line up with some people on them, they’re going to drive you out-of-town, essentially.

“And that’s exactly what happened to you,” MacCallum added, saying this is likely to cause some people not to support the foundation.

“This shouldn’t be about my views on marriage, which are biblical and traditional, it shouldn’t be about my politics, which are conservative,” Huckabee said.

He then described the progressive left to a “T.”

“That’s why it’s just painful to me but there is a new maximum today, Martha, if you want to disagree with someone, rather than respectfully disagreeing, sitting down having a conversation — maybe not walking away with a different view, but at least an understanding — today it’s let’s go after that person personally, let’s try to destroy their livelihood. If they own a store, let’s try to shut them down,” Huckabee said.
