Trump lays Russian ‘meddling’ blame on Obama

President Trump is once more hitting back at allegations of Russian collusion.

The president on Saturday doubled down on his characterization of investigations into alleged ties between his campaign and the Kremlin as a “witch hunt,” and accused former President Barack Obama of having done nothing to prevent foreign interference in the 2016 election.

“‘Russians had no compromising information on Donald Trump’ @FoxNews,” President Trump wrote. “Of course not, because there is none, and never was. This whole Witch Hunt is an illegal disgrace…and Obama did nothing about Russia!”

The tweet came shortly after the House Intelligence Committee released Democrats’ rebuttal to the GOP memo alleging FISA abuse by the FBI from earlier this month.

The 10-page counter memo claimed that the Justice Department did indeed disclose to the FISA court that it knew Christopher Steele’s dossier was politically motivated.

It also stated that the dossier was corroborated “through multiple independent sources.”

The document seemingly did not dispute the original memo’s claim that former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe “testified before the Committee in December 2017 that no surveillance warrant would have been sought from the FISC without the Steele dossier information.”

President Trump criticized Democrats’ memo, calling it a “bust.”

On Feb. 16, a federal grand jury in the probe of Special Counsel Robert Mueller indicted 13 Russian nationals and 3 Russian entities with election meddling.

According to the indictment, the interference began in 2014 and consisted of a “disinformation campaign” that supported both left-wing and right-wing groups, including the presidential candidacy of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein stated:

“There is no allegation in this indictment that any American was a knowing participant in this illegal activity. There is no allegation in the indictment that the charge conduct altered the outcome of the 2016 election.”

President Trump has previously called out the Obama administration for its alleged failure to address Russian electoral interference.
