A change in the official mission statement of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to reflect its job of protecting Americans has sent liberals into a meltdown.
Language in the previous mission statement referring to the country as “a nation of immigrants” will no longer be used, an agency official said Thursday according to NBC News.

The federal agency that grants visas and citizenship communicated the change in a letter sent to employees by agency director L. Francis Cissna, a pick of President Trump’s who was sworn in as director of the agency in October. The new statement “clearly defines the agency’s role in our country’s lawful immigration system and the commitment we have to the American people,” the letter stated.
The previous mission statement said the agency “secures America’s promise as a nation of immigrants by providing accurate and useful information to our customers, granting immigration and citizenship benefits, promoting an awareness and understanding of citizenship, and ensuring the integrity of our immigration system.”
The updated USCIS mission statement now reads:
“U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services administers the nation’s lawful immigration system, safeguarding its integrity and promise by efficiently and fairly adjudicating requests for immigration benefits while protecting Americans, securing the homeland, and honoring our values.”
“The agency’s new mission statement was developed and debuted within the agency by USCIS Director Cissna during his first conference with USCIS senior leadership from around the world,” a USCIS public affairs officer told NBC News in a statement. “It reflects the director’s guiding principles for the agency. This includes a focus on fairness, lawfulness and efficiency, protecting American workers, and safeguarding the homeland.”
In addition, the new mission statement does not refer to visa applicants as “customers” any longer because the term “promotes an institutional culture that emphasizes the ultimate satisfaction of applicants and petitioners, rather than the correct adjudication of such applications and petitions according to the law,” Cissna said, according to NBC News.
Naturally, the change prompted immediate backlash from pro-immigration groups.
“Our nation is one built by immigrants — removing this language does nothing to change that fact, it only reveals the insidious racism harbored by those in this administration,” senior director for refugee protection at Human Rights First, Eleanor Acer, said in a statement. “We cannot separate ‘immigrants’ from ‘Americans’ — we are intrinsically linked as children, parents, neighbors, and loved ones. By seeking to distinguish between the two, the administration is turning its back on our nation’s proud history and engaging in dangerous revisionism.”
The sentiments were echoed on Twitter.
The changes to the USCIS mission statement are PROFOUND. No longer any mention of immigrants becoming citizens—and a strong implication that they never really can become Americans. https://t.co/4WKjPTxqSC

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”
Nope. The U.S. is no longer devoted to securing “America’s promise as a nation of immigrants.” https://t.co/kxmTH7dLQK

Total denial of reality
Very frightening time for our nation— MeM (@Meb7777i) February 23, 2018
Disgusting. Alarming. Got to stop these fascists.

But many more Twitter users welcomed the news as another sign of the Trump administration working to protect Americans and restore the nation.
The changes are fantastic. It’s frustrating to read the offense that some take when citizens safety is prioritized.

It’s not the 1700s anymore when we were trying to build up the population. And yes, we are. We just want it done legally and with proper background checks.

It’s time to smash the “nation of immigrants” garbage. The europeans who came here were settlers, colonizers, pioneers. They forged a new nation that did not exist before. The left pretends they are moral when what they want is genocidal colonization.

We are NOT a nation of immigrants.
We ARE a nation of settlers and pioneers.
Immigrants did NOT make America.— penelope maynard (@penelope7usa) February 22, 2018
I’m sorry but exactly what’s wrong with the new mission statement? Why was the phrase “Nation of Immigrants” in the statement to begin with?

Factually correct, and was an odd political choice of words – all nations refer to their constituents /citizens as nationals.

Good. We are NOW a sovereign nation in need of protection.
