Prince Harry and fiancee Meghan Markle get scare with ‘racist’ white powder letter

A letter addressed to Meghan Markle and her fiance Prince Harry sparked alarm as authorities feared the white powder contained inside the envelope might be anthrax.

Scotland Yard was investigating after the letter, which was believed to contain a racist message, was intercepted at a sorting office in St James’s Palace in central London on February 12, according to the Evening Standard.

The letter was sent to Kensington Palace but, due to security measures already in place, was checked before it reached the couple and the substance was found to be harmless.

“Police are investigating after a package containing a substance was delivered to St James’s Palace on Monday, 12 February,” police said in a statement, according to Evening Standard.

“The substance was tested and confirmed as non-suspicious. Officers are also investigating an allegation of malicious communications which relates to the same package,” the statement said.

Another package containing white powder was sent to the British parliament, reportedly to the office of Home Secretary Amber Rudd. the next day, on February 13. That substance was also found harmless but police were investigating if the incidents are linked.

Markle, set to become a member of the royal family when the couple weds this spring, is already under 24-hour protection.

The former American actress and Prince Harry will be married in Windsor on May 19 and security measures will no doubt be double and triple-checked as the couple is also set to ride in a carriage along a public route following the ceremony.
