A White House official slammed Republican Senator Lindsey Graham for supporting a plan that would grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens and will not curb illegal immigration.
“I’m not aware when Lindsey Graham became the chairman of the Democratic conference,” a WH official said. “He has been an obstacle to immigration reform.”
The Senate is locked in a heated battle over immigration reform. To the chagrin of his supporters, President Trump wants to grant a path to citizenship for 1.8 million DACA beneficiaries. In exchange, he wants $25 billion for a border wall and an end to chain migration and the diversity visa lottery program.
The Democrats don’t want to fund a border wall and do not want to limit illegal immigration. Critics say this is because the Democrats want to import as many illegals as possible to grow their party, since they’re losing the support of the middle class — their longtime base. Some minorities are also getting fed up with Dems for failing to deliver on their lofty promises to them.
Graham trashed a statement by the Department of Homeland Security explaining why the immigration bill that he supports will not stem the tsunami of illegal immigration. The bill that Graham backs was proposed by Senator Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine).
The DHS statement said the Schumer-Rounds-Collins proposal would effectively turn the United States into a “Sanctuary Nation”:
“It would be the end of immigration enforcement in America and only serve to draw millions more illegal aliens with no way to remove them. By halting immigration enforcement for all aliens who arrived before June 2018, it ignores the lessons of 9/11 and significantly increases the risk of crime and terrorism.
The changes proposed by Senators Schumer-Rounds-Collins would effectively make the United States a Sanctuary Nation where ignoring the rule of law is encouraged.”
Graham has been nicknamed Senator “Grahamnesty” by many Republicans for his soft stance on illegal immigration. He trashed the DHS statement by basically saying it’s mean to enforce immigration law.
“The DHS press release is over the top,” Graham said. “It’s poisonous. I think its ridiculous and I’ve long since stopped paying attention to them.”
The DHS statement said the DREAMer bill is nothing more than a “mass amnesty bill for illegal aliens of all ages (see excerpt below):
President Trump also slammed the Schumer-Rounds-Collins bill, saying it would “be a total catastrophe” that “creates a giant amnesty.”
He tweeted: “Voting for this amendment would be a vote AGAINST law enforcement, and a vote FOR open borders.”
