Even in a time in which “tolerance” and “inclusivity” are all the rage, the line has to be drawn somewhere.
A three-year-old Wirehaired Vizla named Angus P. Woolley was entered by his owner into the Kansas gubernatorial race, but the secretary of state’s office said the dog’s name would not be allowed on the ballot.

Terran Woolley decided to submit his pet’s name for the race last week after learning the state has no rules about who can run, the Kansas City Star reported.
Woolley saw that several teenagers were running for the office and decided his dog would make a good candidate.
“Basically, I was reading some stories about the young teenagers that were entering the governor’s race and I thought, ‘I wonder what it takes to be in the race,’ and I thought, ‘I wonder if my dog, Angus could run,” Woolley told KWCH.

The office of the Kansas Secretary of State dashed the canine’s political ambitions.
“A dog will not be allowed to file and put its name on the ballot,” Brian Caskey, director of elections for the secretary of state’s office, told Hutchinson News.
Woolley said that if Angus had won, he would have given residents of the state “soft couches, tempurpedic beds, free for life universal chuck it ball supplies, and a completely anti-squirrel agenda.”

The Wirehaired Vizla would have appointed his siblings Babe and Max as lieutenant governor and secretary of state.
“I do believe that he is a caring, nurturing individual who cares about the best for humanity and all creatures — other than squirrels,” Woolley said of Angus.
Blake Carpenter, a Republican member of Kansas’ House of Representatives, told the Kansas Star that state lawmakers are working on legislation that “would place some requirements on who can run for governor.”

“I’m glad, I guess, a dog wasn’t allowed onto the ballot because that just…makes no sense,” he said.
While Angus’ political career was short-lived, seven teenagers have already entered the governor’s race, the Associated Press reports.
Many Twitter users jokingly welcomed the canine’s bid for office.

Is Kansas against dogs? Certainly looks honest enough to win!

Based on current events (in many nations), a dog would be more suitable for office than most ‘leaders’ out there. I presume the little guy realized that he was barking up the wrong tree when realizing that politics is a ‘dog eats dog’ world.
