San Francisco area seeing mass exodus of residents, leads nation in outward migration

All these years later, we see the grand experiment known as America working just as the Founding Fathers envisioned, with people voting with their feet.

A phenomenon that’s spelling bad news for liberal bastions like San Francisco.

The Golden Gate City, better known these days for its sanctuary city policies that led to the murder of Kate Steinle at the hands of an illegal immigrant who had been deported five times, is seeing a mass exodus of residents.

The number of people packing up and moving out of the Bay Area hit its highest level in more than a decade, KPIX-TV reported.

And it’s showing no signs of slowing down.

According to the CBS affiliate, more people are leaving the San Francisco area than ever before and the area now leads the nation in outward migration.

“I loved it here when I first got here. I really loved it here. But it’s just not the same,” retired engineer Carole Dabak told KPIX-TV.

Dabak has lived in the area for 40 years, but is now moving to Tennessee.

The high cost of housing is seen as a key reason, but San Francisco’s liberal policies also factor in.

“We don’t like it here anymore,” Dabak said, citing politics, crime and crowding. “You know, we don’t like this sanctuary state status and just the politics here.”

Data from the FBI showed that San Francisco has the highest property crime rate per capita in the nation’s top 50 cities, SFist reported in April 2016.

Critics point to the passing of Proposition 47 in California which downgraded many “non-serious, nonviolent crimes” from felonies to misdemeanors. Prop 47 also released thousands from prison.

Homelessness is also a major problem in the city. The San Francisco Chronicle reported in 2017 that despite hundreds of millions of dollars spent to address it, the problem is as bad as ever.

Seeing a homeless person defecate or urinate in public in San Francisco is a common sight. The problem is so pervasive, an online map is needed to track human feces on city streets, according to Fox News.

“There’s a very tolerant attitude, you can very much do anything on the streets you want,” Marc Joffe, director of research at the California Policy Center, told Fox News.

The surprise may not be over the number of people fleeing the liberal city, but over how long it has taken for them to do so.
