WaPo’s ‘conservative’ writer: Trump will one day be on the ‘World’s Dumbest Criminal’ list

Trump haters are gonna hate.

On Thursday, conservative commentator Jennifer Rubin condemned President Trump and congressional Republicans for the upcoming release of a classified House Intelligence Committee memo dealing with alleged abuse by the FBI and Department of Justice in investigating the Trump campaign.

Rubin, who writes the “Right Turn” blog for the Washington Post, first responded to MSNBC’s Ari Melber, who asked whether President Trump was correct in describing the GOP as “united” at a Republican retreat on Thursday.

“Jennifer, do you think that’s a true statement?” Melber asked. “And do you think that the uniting is around undermining the rule of law?”

“Yes to the latter,” Rubin responded. “As to the former, whether they’re united, I guess we’re going to tell over time whether that breaks apart.”

“Let me just go back to something very briefly, Ari,” she continued. “One of the reasons that the Hope Hicks statement is so important, is what she is doing is giving an opening to Trump to lie to the public. She is saying you can make up whatever story you want because the real reason which is reflected in those emails is not going to come out.”

Rubin’s comments referred to a New York Times report from Wednesday that said Mark Corallo, former spokesman for President Trump’s private legal team, will tell Special Counsel Robert Mueller that the president and White House Communications Director Hope Hicks discussed Donald Trump, Jr.’s 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer.

According to the report, Corallo heard Hicks say that the younger Trump’s emails from before the meeting “will never get out.”

Obama’s Attorney Gen. Eric Holder just released a statement on FISA memo, with one glaring problem

Rubin accused the White House of planning to destroy evidence, and argued Republican lawmakers are “enabling” illicit conduct.

“So that’s powerful in the context as well as suggesting they might be destroyed. And to the Republicans, to me, what even surprises me after a year of this, these people are now, not just looking the other way, they are facilitating, they are enabling.”

The Washington Post columnist also suggested House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) is “cooperating” with President Trump to discredit the FBI.

“We have reason to believe that Devin Nunes is perhaps cooperating with the White House in sending this memo into the public. What we know is that the president is telling aides that he is doing it for the express purpose of discrediting the FBI. Why doesn’t he just go on the roof and say ‘obstruction of justice? Obstruction of justice!'”

She warned that the president would one day appear on programs that list self-sabotaging criminals

“You know when they show those videos of the criminal being locked in the bank safe? That’s going to be Donald Trump. He asked not one but three high national security figures if they were on his team. He has crafted a statement that we believe is not representative, is not an accurate account of that June meeting.”

The controversial memo is expected to be released to the public Friday morning.
