Democrats exposed as frauds as they actually vote against CHIP funding in spending bill

For all their “think about the children” rhetoric, Democrats don’t seem to mind throwing America’s kids under the bus if it serves their agenda.

On Thursday night, 186 of the House’s 193 Democrats voted against keeping the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) funded for the next six years as they sought to block Republicans’ stopgap spending measure intended to fund the government for the next four weeks.

CHIP provides health insurance funds for children in low-income families that earn too much to qualify for Medicaid. A Harvard/Politico poll found CHIP to be the number one issue overall for Americans.

Republicans’ inclusion of a six-yeaar CHIP extension came as the GOP tries to avoid a government shutdown and Democrats vow to oppose such efforts unless protections are provided for illegal aliens who were shielded from deportation by the Obama-era DACA program, which the Trump administration ended last year.

Only six Democrats broke rank to vote in favor of the stopgap measure’s continued CHIP funding. The bill passed along party lines and heads to the Senate, where Republicans hold a slim 51-vote majority.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Republicans’ inclusion of CHIP funding in the short-term spending measure was akin to “giving you a bowl of doggy doo, put a cherry on top and call it a chocolate sundae.”

Senate Democrats have vowed to filibuster the spending bill.

Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL), who recently won his state’s special election, spoke last month about finding common ground to save the health care program, CNN reports.

“Take this election,” Jones said. “Take this election where the people of Alabama said we want to get something done, we want you to find common ground, we want you to talk. Take this opportunity in light of this election and go ahead and fund that CHIP program before I get up there. Put it aside and let’s do it for those million kids and 150,000 here in Birmingham, Alabama.”

Last week, Jones proposed a bill to keep CHIP funded for the next five years.

President Trump also called for continued CHIP funding on Thursday.

President Trump and congressional Republicans have said funding for a border wall and the elimination of chain migration are necessary conditions for agreeing to a DACA deal.

Once again, liberals show they’re unwilling to negotiate. If the government shuts down at midnight, it will be squarely on the Democrats’ shoulders.
