Good people hate racism, but does it justify threats of violence?
The University of Alabama and a campus sorority took action after a student posted a racial slur-filled video to her social media on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The student, identified by AL.com as Harley Barber, shared the video on her Instagram on Monday.
Barber was heard saying “We do not waste water…because of the poor people in Syria. We don’t waste water. I love how I act like I love black people because I f*****g hate n*****s so that’s really interesting but I just saved the f*****g n*****s by shutting that water off.”
After receiving backlash, Barber made another video in which she called out her critics and described herself as belonging to the sorority Alpha Phi.

“N****r, n****r, n****r,” she said. “I don’t care if it’s Martin Luther King Day. … I’m in the south now b***h, so everybody can f**k off. I’m from New Jersey so I can say (n-word) as much as I want.”
In the video, Barber made reference to her “Finsta,” slang for a fake Instagram account.
Alpha Phi released a statement on Tuesday that condemned Barber and said the sorority had cut ties with the student.
The University of Alabama also spoke out.
These remarks are ignorant and disturbing and in no way reflect the values of The University of Alabama. This unfortunate behavior has been reported to the Office of Student Conduct as it does not align with the community expectations of students at the Capstone.

In addition to the official excoriation from these organizations, many social media users blasted Barber–some using aggressive language.

Racism is never okay, but neither is violence. Should the school conduct an investigation into the threats?
