Tonya Harding gets knee-capped by agent after disastrous media tour sends her crashing back to earth

Disgraced former figure skater Tonya Harding’s comeback tour just got knee-capped much like her former rival, Nancy Kerrigan, did.

And like with Kerrigan, the comeback campaign is an apparent victim to Harding’s desire for personal gain.

Michael A. Rosenberg, the agent who was representing Harding during the “I, Tonya” promotional tour, dumped the skater after revealing on social media her demand that journalists pay a $25,000 fine if they ask about the January 1994 attack on Kerrigan.

Harding reemerged on the national scene as a the result of  “I, Tonya,” a dark comedy based on her career. She was the toast of Hollywood at Sunday’s Golden Globes after actress Allison Janney won Best Supporting Actress for playing Harding’s mom.

“‘I, Tonya’ is now ‘goodbye, Tonya,’” Rosenberg wrote. “Unfortunately, we reached an impasse today on how to treat the press in the future. Her adamant and final position is that reporters must sign an affidavit stating that they won’t ask her anything ‘about the past’ or they’ll be fined $25,000.

“Obviously, it doesn’t work that way,” he said, “and therefore I’ve chosen to terminate our business relationship.”

Harding’s ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, hired the hit man who knee-capped Kerrigan in 1994 and Harding pleaded guilty to hindering the prosecution. She denied any knowledge of the attack, but the U.S. Figure Skating Association concluded that she did and banned her for life.

Harding told ABC News earlier this month she “knew that something was up.”

“I did, however, overhear them talking about stuff, where, ‘Well, maybe we should take somebody out so we can make sure she gets on the team,’” she explained. “I go, ‘What the hell are you talking about?’” she said.

Harding has shamelessly tried to capitalize on the notoriety gained from the incident ever since, even trying a stint at boxing.
