London’s Muslim mayor gloated over news that President Donald Trump cancelled his visit to the city after he “got the message” from its residents that he was not welcome.
Sadiq Khan all but celebrated Trump’s decision in a statement on Twitter Friday.
“It appears that President Trump got the message from the many Londoners who love and admire America and Americans but find his policies and actions the polar opposite of our city’s values of inclusion, diversity and tolerance,” Khan said.

The outspoken Trump critic also took a jab at Prime Minister Theresa May for extending the invitation to the U.S. president.
Trump, blaming former President Obama for the “bad deal” made selling the U.S. Embassy in London in 2009 and relocating the diplomatic headquarters elsewhere at a significant cost, announced he would not be making the trip for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Security reasons prompted the 2008 decision under former President George W. Bush to move the embassy.
“His visit next month would without doubt have been met by mass peaceful protests,” Khan said in his statement.

The former leader of Britain’s UK Independence Party, Nigel Farage, blasted Khan and Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbin for backing planned protests that discouraged Trump’s visit.
“It’s disappointing. He’s been to countries all over the world and yet he’s not been to the one with whom he’s closest. I think it’s disappointing,” Farage told BBC Radio, according to The Independent. “Maybe just maybe Sadiq Khan, Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour party planning mass protests, maybe those optics he didn’t like the look of.”
Khan had declared the president not welcome on previous occasions, calling for invitations and visits to be canceled last year when Trump appeared to criticize the mayor’s reaction to a terror attack in London.
“There are many things about which Donald Trump is wrong,” Khan said at the tine.
In November, Khan said Trump should not be welcomed in the United Kingdom after the president tweeted a series of anti-Muslim videos from a far-right British party purportedly showing violent acts engaged in by Muslims.
