Trump’s attorney just sent Steve Bannon a ‘cease and desist’ letter over derogatory comments

The feud between President Donald Trump and former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon reached a new level Wednesday when the president’s legal team sent a cease and desist letter demanding that Bannon refrain from disparaging comments about Trump and his family.

The latest salvo adding to the salivation on the left is that Bannon may be prompted to  “give up the goods” on Trump.

The split between Trump and his former aide was prompted by Michael Wolff’s book, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” which features several stinging barbs from Bannon, who runs Breitbart News.

Among the shots, Bannon said a meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a group of Russians was “treasonous,” and said Ivanka Trump is “dumb as a brick.”

President Trump responded by releasing a statement insisting that Bannon “has nothing to do with me or my Presidency.”

“When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind. […] Now that he is on his own, Steve is learning that winning isn’t as easy as I make it look,” he added.

Trump went on to suggest that Bannon was behind many of the leaks coming from the White House early on in his presidency.

“Steve pretends to be at war with the media,” he said, “which he calls the opposition party, yet he spent his time at the White House leaking false information to the media to make himself seem far more important than he was. It is the only thing he does well.”

The president is represented by attorney Charles J. Harder, of the firm Harder Mirell & Abrams LLP, said in a statement that “legal action in imminent,” according to ABC News.

“This law firm represents President Donald J. Trump and Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. On behalf of our clients, legal notice was issued today to Stephen K. Bannon, that his actions of communicating with author Michael Wolff regarding an upcoming book give rise to numerous legal claims including defamation by libel and slander, and breach of his written confidentiality and non-disparagement agreement with our clients. Legal action is imminent.”

Trump had all campaign staff sign a non-disclosure agreement and Harder informs Bannon that he breached the agreement by disclosing confidential information and “by making disparaging statements and in some cases outright defamatory statements” about Trump and his family members.

The letter also suggests Trump will be seeking a monetary settlement, as Harder said if there’s any litigation as a result of Bannon’s breach, “Mr. Trump and the Company will be entitled to an award of reasonable legal fees and costs.”

As for Bannon, the Daily Beast reported Thursday that he still stands by his former boss, despite the very public feud.

“There’s no one we think higher than Donald Trump,” Bannon reassured one caller on his SiriusXM radio show “Breitbart News Tonight.”

He reportedly blamed the “left-wing media” for stirring up animosity between himself and Trump.
