Former Trump campaign manager sues Mueller and Justice Dept. over Russia investigation

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort is firing back at special counsel Robert Mueller, and came out with guns blazing to kick off the New Year.

Manafort is suing Mueller, the Department of Justice, and the DOJ’s deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein (an Obama holdover), claiming they overstepped their authority when they investigated his “decade-old business dealings” during Mueller’s probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

“The Special Counsel’s investigation and indictment resulted from a violation of numerous DOJ policies and procedures and otherwise far exceeds any lawful authority to investigate links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government,” according to the complaint.

In October 2017, Manafort was indicted for tax evasion and money-laundering for business activities he engaged in between 2006 and 2014. Manafort did not join the Trump campaign until April 2016, and was fired five months later, in August 2016.

The tax evasion/money-laundering indictment and Michael Flynn’s admission of “lying to the FBI” are the only federal crimes that have come out of Mueller’s investigation of alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. This underscores once again Mueller has no evidence of collusion.

In his lawsuit, Paul Manafort said by investigating activities that pre-dated his involvement with the Trump campaign, the Mueller probe has become “completely unmoored.”

The complaint alleges: “Mr. Mueller’s actions pursuant to the authority the Order granted him, were arbitrary, capricious, and not in accordance with the law.”

Manafort also claims deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein (an Obama holdover) committed an “abuse of discretion” when he appointed special counsel Robert Mueller, calling the appointment illegal.

Manafort is asking the judge to set aside the indictments against him (citing the unlawful probe) and to narrow the scope of Mueller’s probe to include only activities that might be related to Russian meddling.

While experts say Manafort’s lawsuit will likely be dismissed, it raises some valid points.

After a year of exhaustive investigations, Mueller’s team still has produced no evidence that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia. So taxpayers have shelled out millions of dollars for a probe that has yielded no results.

Moreover, the integrity of Mueller’s investigation is severely compromised since his team is stacked with Democratic donors and former Obama lawyers.

Even more shocking are the thousands of anti-Trump, pro-Hillary texts exchanged between Mueller team members Peter Strzok (a senior FBI agent) and his mistress, FBI attorney Lisa Page.

Indeed, the upper levels of most U.S. intelligence agencies are stacked with Obama holdovers who despise Trump. The intel community is supposed to be nonpartisan, but appears to be anything but.

The anti-Trump bias has gotten so out of hand that former CIA director Michael Morell said he regrets how unfairly the intelligence agencies have treated President Trump.
