The force hasn’t been strong with Mark Hamill.
The “Star Wars” star apologized for publicly voicing his creative differences with “Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson regarding the film’s handling of the Luke Skywalker character.
I regret voicing my doubts & insecurities in public.Creative differences are a common element of any project but usually remain private. All I wanted was to make good movie. I got more than that- @rianjohnson made an all-time GREAT one! #HumbledHamill https://t.co/8ujJfBuEdV

“I regret voicing my doubts & insecurities in public,” Hamill wrote on Twitter. “Creative differences are a common element of any project but usually remain private. All I wanted was to make good movie. I got more than that- @rianjohnson made an all-time GREAT one! #HumbledHamill.”

The actor previously told Vanity Fair he “fundamentally disagree[d]” with Luke Skywalker’s treatment in “Last Jedi,” which has made over $800 million worldwide.
“I at one point had to say to Rian, ‘I pretty much fundamentally disagree with every choice you’ve made for this character. Now, having said that, I have gotten it off my chest, and my job now is to take what you’ve created and do my best to realize your vision.'”

In an interview with Spanish outlet SensaCine, Hamill said “This is the next generation of ‘Star Wars’ so I almost had to think of another character … but I had to do what Rian wanted me to do because it serves the story well. … I still haven’t accepted it completely.”
Many fans were dissatisfied with the new film’s depiction of Luke Skywalker, with a number sharing their frustrations on social media under the hashtags #NotMyLuke and #NotMyLukeSkywalker.
The Last Jedi is so unbelievably stupid, insulting, and uninspired that you think you’re watching a parody. Can’t believe that you just killed this franchise. Should have listened to Hamill. Sad #lastjediawful #NotMyStarWars #notmylukeskywalker #NotMyLuke

It makes me happy that Mark Hamill is on the side of “WTF did Rian Johnson do to Luke Skywalker” #NotMyLukeSkywalker

@Disney truly disappointed in the last Jedi. Script was awful. Can not believe the garbage you let slide. Completely ruined 40 years of Luke Skywalker characterization. #NotMyStarWars #notmylukeskywalker #thelastjedi ruined the franchise for me.

The movie was a terrible mess, went against the previous movies and was plaged by ideological propaganda but the worst was the portrayal of luke #NotMyLuke

It’s absolutely awful and insulting they gave such a sad and disastrous end to the characters of the Original Trilogy. They destroyed Luke Skywalker. Mark Hamill did everything he could with Rian Johnson’s crappy script, though. #NotMyLuke #DisneyRuinedStarWars #TheLastJedi

Why did #StarWarsTheLastJedi
have to destroy the image of whole generation’s heroes in order to clear the way for the next?
Maybe I read it wrong, but I felt Luke was done down. #LukeSkywalker is better than this.#NotMyStarWars#NotMyLuke— Bill (@CultTVGuy) December 18, 2017

While critics have generally reviewed “The Last Jedi” favorably, moviegoers have been less enthusiastic.
The latest entry in the “Star Wars” franchise has a 91 percent critic score on the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes–but only a 51 percent audience score.
