Nikki Haley and President Trump may be “taking names” when it comes to handing out foreign aid to nations that vote against us in the U.N., but one CNN commentator is calling it “diplomatic prostitution.”

CNN counterintelligence analyst Phil Mudd, who is also a former deputy director of the CIA’s Counterterrorist Center, slammed the Trump administration’s warning that it may cut off funding to nations that vote to condemn America’s move to declare Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
“Do you think the president’s going to get on the phone and say because of one vote that’s non-binding in the U.N. we’re going to back down on our partnership with you as you kill ISIS partners in Egypt? That is not going to happen,” Mudd said during a Thursday appearance with CNN host Wolf Blitzer.
“Let me be blunt here, Wolf. This is diplomatic prostitution,” said Mudd. “We’re telling people, unless you vote with us, we’re not going to give you money and if your heart doesn’t agree with American policies we’re not going to support you in terms of U.S. aid.”
“It’s not going to happen. The Americans aren’t going to do it, and the president’s not going to back it up,” Mudd concluded.
After a U.N. General Assembly vote to condemn Trump’s decision, a vote in which only 9 nations sided with the United States and 35 abstained, U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley said, “The United States will remember this day in which it was singled out for attack in this assembly. We will remember it when we are called upon to once again make the world’s largest contribution” to the body as well as when other nations ask the United States “to pay even more and to use our influence for their benefit.”
Mudd wasn’t alone among liberals slamming the decision. Journalist Laurie Garrett called it “blackmail.”
Trump's threat to cut off foreign aid to countries that vote against US in @UN Security Council tomorrow re #Jerusalem is unprecedented. No #POTUS has ever told countries we'll stop health or food aid unless you vote the way we demand. Blackmail.

But plenty of others agreed with the president.
For decades, US has worked with allies at UN to provide hundreds of millions in foreign aid, but as @POTUS said, ‘we’re not going to be taken advantage of any longer.’ Congress should take this vote into consideration as we determine which allies deserve our generous foreign aid.

Every country that voted against us today in the UN should have their foreign aid taken from them and used for ourselves. #StandWithIsrael
