His immigration reforms would have stopped last 2 terror attacks, so Trump confronts Congress …

President Trump’s immigration agenda has been validated twice in less than two months’ time, but Democrats still aren’t listening.

In both Monday’s attempted bombing near Times Square and October’s tragic truck attack, the perpetrators were foreign nationals from Middle Eastern countries who came to the US thanks to the Diversity Visa Lottery, which the President wants to end.

The detained suspect from Monday’s attack gained entry to the country as a result of chain migration initiated by a relative, who received a visa and ultimately became a US citizen through the visa lottery program.

“The chain was initiated by the suspect’s relative who became a U.S. Citizen after entering the country via a visa lottery program,” a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Saipov was himself a visa lottery recipient who immigrated from Uzbekistan in 2010.

Both men claimed to have acted in the name of the ISIS. Eight people were killed in Saipov’s truck attack, while Ullah injured three in addition to himself on Monday.

President Trump has previously called for the elimination of the visa lottery system, which since 1990 has awarded 50,000 visas per year to foreign nationals from countries with low levels of migration to the US.

Last month, the President blasted the Diversity Visa Program for having enabled the Saipov’s truck attack.

In a Monday statement issued in response to the attempted bombing at the Port Authority terminal subway station in New York, the President more specifically addressed the issue of chain migration.

“Today’s terror suspect entered our country through extended-family chain migration, which is incompatible with national security.  My Executive action to restrict the entry of certain nationals from eight countries, which the Supreme Court recently allowed to take effect, is just one step forward in securing our immigration system.  Congress must end chain migration.”

The President stressed his call on Congress to take action.

“Today’s attempted mass murder attack in New York City—the second terror attack in New York in the last two months—once again highlights the urgent need for Congress to enact legislative reforms to protect the American people.”

In November, the State Department released data revealing that since 2007, the visa lottery has been responsible for the US admitting nearly 30,000 foreign nationals from the terror-sponsoring nations of Sudan, Syria, and Iran.

President Trump has voiced support for the RAISE Act authored by senators Tom Cotton (R-AR) and David Perdue (R-GA). The bill would lower legal immigration levels by half and put an end to both chain migration and the visa lottery.

Other immigration reform bills being weighed in Congress leave the visa lottery in place. Congressional Democrats have opposed eliminating the program.

Despite the national controversy surrounding immigration, President Trump’s stance on immigration remains extremely popular with conservatives.
