CNN covers Trump’s Diet Coke consumption instead of botched NYC terrorist attack

CNN’s making it too easy for people to mock them, as seen Monday when the network was laser focused on President Donald Trump’s beverage of choice instead of covering the botched terrorist attack in New York City.

In the news that’s fit to print, The New York Times had reported that Trump drinks a dozen cans of Diet Coke a day.

Fox News noted that during the massive chaos caused by the failed bombing, “some CNN viewers could be in the dark because the network spent an inordinate amount of time covering an anti-Trump story about the president’s soda consumption.”

At the same time it was being reported a man had a pipe bomb strapped to him, CNN was doing a segment with this featured chyron, “NYT Report: Trump drinks a dozen diet cokes per day.”

In response to the network’s coverage, Media Research Center Vice President Dan Gainor mocked CNN’s “This is an Apple” ad campaign that was intended to counter President Trump’s “fake news” narrative.

“U.S. News was talking about the bombing at 7:54. Nearly an hour later, CNN is whining about Donald Trump drinks Diet Cokes and watches too much TV instead of reporting about terrorism in New York City,” Gainor told Fox News. “CNN might tell you what it’s giving you is an apple, but if it is, it’s rotten.”

Despite the ridicule, CNN wasn’t finished with Diet Coke-gate, dedicating an entire segment on it later in the day, to include an in-depth analysis on how Trump’s body might respond to so many diet sodas.

As already established, the network is making this too easy… here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter, to include a tweet from Donald Trump Jr., who suggests the quantity reported may even be accurate:
