It seems the confirmed number of President Donald Trump’s judicial nominees is getting under Democrats’ skin.
With 16 judges since he took over the Oval Office, and nine of them in just over one month’s time, Trump has had more appellate court justices confirmed by this date in his presidency than any former president since Republican Richard Nixon, WZVN reported.
And Democrats are not celebrating.

They have former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to thank for the change of rules three years ago which allowed a 60-vote threshold to get a confirmation past a filibuster. Democrats attempted to thwart GOP efforts to block Obama’s nominees to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit but ended up shooting themselves in the foot.
“The judiciary is so critical to the Republican right-wing that we had to expect they were ready to move heaven and earth,” Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said, according to WZVN. “It was a big mistake if you think that we could have anticipated Donald Trump as president, and no one did. …. It turned out that we were wrong.”
“If we had foreseen the unprecedented misuse of authority in appointing judges, we probably would have thought better of changing the rules,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn. said.
Democrats are complaining that Republicans are rushing through to approve candidates even though they may be unqualified, and there is nothing they can do to stop them but stall.
Trump’s choices of conservatives who will serve for years, shifting the balance decidedly to the right, include nine circuit court appeals judges and six district court judges as well as one Supreme Court justice, Neil Gorsuch.
Thanks to the leadership of @senjudiciary Chairman @ChuckGrassley, the #Senate has confirmed 3X the amount of Circuit Judges for @POTUS in his first year than President Obama. https://t.co/OVYyJ4Bbnk

Trump’s conservative appointments have been a constant fulfillment of one of his campaign promises, much to the dismay of Democrats.
“We’ve cemented a conservative majority on the Supreme Court for a generation,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told The Associated Press last week.
