Christmas is supposed to be a time of goodwill and merriment. For most children, Santa Claus perfectly personifies the Christmas spirit, with his selfless giving and warm, jovial personality.
But for some kids, Santa’s late-night uninvited entry into the home isn’t something to look forward to.
Sarah McCammon, a reporter for NPR, shared her son’s unsettling message to Saint Nick. Unlike most boys his age, McCammon’s six-year-old didn’t ask for a BB gun or a skateboard.
He just wanted Kris Kringle to leave him alone.

The boy started out by emphasizing that he was only getting in touch with the jolly fat man because he was forced to.
“Santa Im only doing this for the class” he wrote, before becoming strangely melancholic.
“I know your notty list is emty. And your good list is emty. and your life is emty.”
McCammon’s son also charged that, despite Santa’s supposed ability to see people when they’re awake and sleeping, he has no idea what the schoolboy is going through.
“You dont know the trouble Ive had in my life,” he wrote.

He then closed without revealing his identity.
“Love,
“Im not telling you my name.”
Maybe he still believes in Santa enough to want to avoid getting on the naughty list.
The boy gave the letter unique decoration. He drew Christmas wreaths on one side of his message–and skulls on the other.
McCammon was quick to clarify what her son meant by the “trouble” he’s had in his life–lest someone report her to the authorities.
PS – the “troubles” in his life? His brother. Don’t call child services. ?

The letter was a hit on Twitter, where it prompted people to share their own Santa-related thoughts and experiences.
Like my friends who decided not to ‘do’ Santa as they were church people and explained the story of St Nicholas. Taxi driver says, “What is Santa bringing you this year?”

LOLOL. Love your little skeptic.
Similarly, in 2nd grade, my daughter’s response to a personal essay assignment was, “I do not like to share personal details.” ?? She is my “spicy child.”

My son was 3 when he told other children in his nursery class that Santa was invented by Coca Cola. He also said if he had to believe in a god it would be the Greek gods because they are more interesting. Sorry…

i think if a six year old told me my life is “emty” in that ruthlessly honest way kids speak, i would really have to take a hard look at myself and search for where i lost my way

I think the six-year-old is destined for a career in journalism. Awesome.

I don’t think it’s funny at all, sorry. He’s 6! I’d be deeply disturbed by this if it was my kid. Letters to Santa are supposed to be full of innocence, sweetness & yes humour, but this is extra. Kid sounds like a budding grinch who might need antidepressants when he grows up!

Ah, when you have one of those children destined to grow up to be either a genius or a serial killer. Those are the best children!

Don’t feel bad kid. My boss makes us praise him for his “great job.” I feel where you’re coming from. pic.twitter.com/SNg7rvdlP2
