After years of dragging the widow of Navy SEAL and “American Sniper” author Chris Kyle through the courts, former pro wrestler Jesse Ventura has reached an agreement with Kyles’ estate to settle the case.
…but not before taking a cheap shot at the deceased veteran.
Playing off the title of Kyle’s book, Ventura called the late Navy SEAL an”American liar.”
“I offered the ‘American Liar’ Chris Kyle the opportunity to show honor and courage, and he didn’t have it,” Ventura said at a press conference on Monday.
Ventura filed a defamation lawsuit after Kyle described a fight in his book with an individual he later identified as Ventura.
According to Kyle, a group of SEALs had gathered at a bar to commemorate the recent loss of a comrade who died throwing himself on a grenade. Ventura happened to be in the bar and began bad-mouthing the U.S. military — Ventura maintained the incident never occurred.
Ventura was awarded $1.8 million in 2014, but the judgement was overturned in 2016 and a new trial was expected.
Saying the settlement was confidential, the man who named Kyle’s wife, Taya, mother to his two children, to the lawsuit after her husband was killed by a vet suffering from PTSD, said he can now “smile again.”
Ventura did point out that the money he received did not come from Kyle’s widow or his estate.
This is not the first time Ventura has disparaged Kyle, who registered more confirmed kills than any sniper in U.S. history. In 2015, he suggested Kyle was the equivalent of a Nazi war hero.
