White House soon to replace Tillerson as Sec. of State, his replacement expected to be CIA Chief: Report

Rex Tillerson, a former Exxon CEO, had fallen out of favor with the Trump administration, according to numerous reports. As the NYT summarized:

The ouster of Mr. Tillerson would end a turbulent reign at the State Department for the former Exxon Mobile chief executive, who has been largely marginalized over the last year. Mr. Trump and Mr. Tillerson have been at odds over a host of major issues, including the Iran nuclear deal, the confrontation with North Korea and a clash between Arab allies. The secretary was reported to have privately called Mr. Trump a “moron” and the president publicly criticized Mr. Tillerson for “wasting his time” with a diplomatic outreach to North Korea.

The expected replacement for Pompeo as CIA Director would be current Senator Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas, who is a former Army officer and Airborne Ranger. He served in the Iraq War and earned the Combat Infantry Badge and Bronze Star Medal.

Just hours after announcing he won’t run for re-election, Democratic Rep. John Conyers hospitalized

The White House has not finalized the planned transition, which would not be entirely unforeseen by numerous political observers.

This is breaking news story and will be updated with more information as forthcoming.
