‘Missing’ Las Vegas security guard comes out of hiding to appear on Ellen DeGeneres show

Mandalay Bay security guard Jesus Campos will come out of hiding on Wednesday when he appears on Ellen DeGeneres’s daytime talk show.

“Tomorrow, the first people to encounter the Las Vegas shooter are here – security guard Jesus Campos and building engineer Stephen Schuck,” host Ellen DeGeneres tweeted.

Campos has been the subject of massive scrutiny after he cancelled several interviews the week after the shooting and his whereabouts was unknown.

Debra DeShong, a spokeswoman for MGM Resorts International, told the Associated Press that Campos “wants to tell his story at a time and place of his choosing,” and that he has “asked that everyone respect his request for privacy.”

David Hickey, one of Campos’ union leaders, told the AP that he was last aware of the security guards whereabouts on Friday, when another union member told him he was taking Campos to a Quick Care medical facility.

“We’re hoping to hear from Mr. Campos, and if Mr. Campos contacts us for assistance we will be there,” Hickey said.

But healthcare officials have denied ever treating Campos, according to Fox News.

Shuck said he first encountered Campos when he went to check on a report of an open fire door on the 32nd floor. He told CBS News that he heard gunfire and that Campos peeked out from an alcove and told him to take cover.

“As soon as I started to go to a door to my left the rounds started coming down the hallway,” Schuck told CBS News. “I could feel them pass right behind my head.

“It was kind of relentless so I called over the radio what was going on,” he added. “As soon as the shooting stopped we made our way down the hallway and took cover again and then the shooting started again.”

The original timeline of events given by police stated that Campos interrupted gunman Stephen Paddock’s shooting spree on Oct. 1 that killed 58 innocent victims in Las Vegas, the deadliest mass shooting in American history.

But the revised timeline shows that Campos was shot before Paddock began firing at the crowd that was gathered to watch a country music concert across the street.

That timeline change, coupled with Campos’ disappearance, have been fodder for conspiracy theorists on social media who have questioned whether Campos could be a co-conspirator with Paddock and possibly a second shooter.

His reemergence on the “Ellen” show did nothing to stop the theories.

In fact, for many it raised more doubts and questions.

Some speculated that the man in the photo Ellen shared was not the real Jesus Campos.

It looks like the same man. Perhaps some social media forensics experts have a take.
