Now that’s a plot twist.
A Los Angeles lawyer with a reputation for representing women alleging sexual harassment by men like Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly and President Donald Trump is now going to be defending an accused sexual harasser.
Feminist attorney Lisa Bloom has surprisingly agreed to provide her “advising” services to film mogul Harvey Weinstein, who is facing decades of sexual harassment accusations, according to LawNewz.

“As a women’s rights advocate, I have been blunt with Harvey and he has listened to me,” Bloom said in a statement Thursday. “I have told him that times have changed, it is 2017, and he needs to evolve to a higher standard.”

The 65 year-old film studio executive announced a leave of absence from his production company, Weinstein Co., following a disturbing New York Times report that revealed accusations from dozens of women over nearly three decades.

“Over the last year I’ve asked Lisa Bloom to tutor me and she’s put together a team of people. I’ve brought on therapists and I plan to take a leave of absence from my company and to deal with this issue head on. I so respect all women and regret what happened,” Weinstein said in a statement to LawNewz.com

Weinstein announced he is suing the New York Times for the bombshell report which revealed accusations against him by eight women including Ashley Judd. The actress alleged that a meeting with the Hollywood producer years ago went off the rails as he appeared in his hotel room in a bathrobe and asked if he could give her a massage or if she would watch him shower.
He allegedly promised a new employee a career boost if she accepted his sexual advances and “badgered” another female employee into giving him a massage while he was naked, the Times reported. The winner of six best-picture Oscars and co-founder of Miramax, which produced several the films “Pulp Fiction” and “Sex, Lies and Videotape,” Weinstein reportedly reached at least eight settlements with women who accused him of sexual harassment.
But Bloom’s outspoken defense and work on behalf of women rights has earned her a reputation that many don’t see aligning with Weinstein. She is credited with the outing of O’Reilly after representing several women who complained of harassment to Fox News, and even sued the Boy Scouts on behalf of a girl who wanted to join the group.
In April, Bloom launched a direct threat at Fox News’ Jesse Watters for making a seemingly innocent hand gesture she “perceived” as a lewd act about first daughter Ivanka Trump.
Bloom’s mother, feminist attorney Gloria Allred, has also represented women in sexual-harassment claims, most recently against Trump and actor Bill Cosby. She made it clear she was not a fan of her daughter’s decision.
“Had I been asked by Mr. Weinstein to represent him, I would have declined, because I do not represent individuals accused of sex harassment,” Allred said a statement Thursday, according to the Daily Mail. “I only represent those who allege that they are victims of sexual harassment.”
She also warned that if it came down to it, she would not back down from facing her own daughter in court.
“While I would not represent Mr. Weinstein, I would consider representing anyone who accused Mr. Weinstein of sexual harassment, even if it meant that my daughter was the opposing counsel,” she said.
Weinstein is a sexual predator.
But he’s also a big ol’ Democrat so “feminist” lawyers like Lisa Bloom defend him.https://t.co/XpRGOwu0zB

“I have found Harvey to be refreshingly candid and receptive to my message. He has acknowledged mistakes he has made. He is reading books and going to therapy,” she said in a statement, appearing to dismiss the barrage of accusations against Weinstein because he is old, after all.
“He is an old dinosaur learning new ways. He wants to reach out to any of the women who may have issues with him to talk to them in a respectful, peaceful way, with me present if that is acceptable to them,” she said.

Bloom’s defense of and involvement with a man who has been accused of treating women in this way had many scratching their heads. But a tweet from Bloom back in April may have exposed the real story.
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: My book SUSPICION NATION is being made into a miniseries, produced by Harvey Weinstein and Jay Z! https://t.co/Z4pu7y0TfX
— Lisa Bloom (@LisaBloom) April 7, 2017
A docuseries by Jay Z and Weinstein, titled “Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story,” is based on a book by Martin’s parents and Bloom’s book, “Suspicion Nation: The Inside Story of the Trayvon Martin Injustice and Why We Continue to Repeat It.”
LawNewz was awaiting a response from Bloom to a question on whether her agreement to take on Weinstein as a client was motivated by his decision to back the production of her book into the miniseries.
Betting any response from Bloom will not own up to the hypocrisy.
