Mariah Carey lounges in front of a Christmas tree for interview, gets slammed for answer on Vegas attack

Mariah Carey seemed at a loss for words when asked about her reaction to the mass shooting in Las Vegas.

Stretched on a couch in a red gown for a Christmas themed interview on “Good Morning Britain,” the 47 year-old singer was set to speak to Piers Morgan and cohost Susanna Reid via satellite from her home in Beverly Hills when news broke of the massacre that left 59 people dead and more than 500 injured Sunday night.

Carey seemed to be caught off guard by questions from Morgan, confusing viewers with her cursory response and her strange surroundings given the topic at hand.

The pop diva, lounging on a couch in a skin-tight dress with a decorated Christmas tree behind her, was ready to promote her upcoming concerts in Paris and London when Morgan asked for her immediate reaction to the shooting.

The pampered songtress did not appear to know the full details of the emerging story but offered very little depth in her response.

“I pray for the victims and hope all this can stop as soon as possible,” she said. “You know, I have spent a lot of time in Vegas and this type of thing anywhere, happening anywhere is a huge tragedy.”

Morgan asked Carey, who has a residency at Vegas’ Caesars Palace, to respond to the news of concert-goers being gunned down “on a human level.”

“It’s terrible because people are just going out to listen to music and that’s what they wanna do and…really it’s just, they’re out for the night and then something shocking like this happens, and nobody could’ve expected it and it’s just wrong,” she said. “I really don’t know what to say.”

The host then advised that they “take a break” from the interview in order to figure out how to move forward given the breaking news of the fatal shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival where the suspected gunman opened fire on the crowd from his hotel room window on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.

Viewers not only blasted Carey, they also lashed out at Morgan for his “tasteless” questions and for not briefing Carey about the news before the interview.

Morgan took to Twitter to defend himself, explaining that Carey’s “people” were informed prior to the interview.

Following her appearance on “Good Morning Britain,” Carey said she was “horrified” by the tragedy and sent her own message in a tweet.

Many viewers were still unloading on social media following Carey’s awkward television appearance.
