Location scout for Netflix’s ‘Narcos’ murdered by Mexican cartel as he took photos for show

The Netflix series “Narcos” got all too real last week when a location scout for the program was murdered.

The scout, 37-year-old Carlos Muñoz Portal, was on location in Mexico checking out an area for filming of the hit series when a cartel spotted him taking pictures.

The cartel apparently chased him before filling him full of bullets and leaving him laying dead in his car, El Pais reported.

His body was found in San Bartolo Actopan, near the border of Hidalgo, the Mexican state with the dubious distinction of having the highest murder rate.

“We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family,” Netflix said in a statement.”‘The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate.”

Potal, a Mexican citizen, had worked as a location scout for movies and TV shows since 2003.

He had done work for “Spectre,” a James Bond movie, “Man On Fire” and “Apocalypto.”

Narcos is described by the Internet Movie Database as “A chronicled look at the criminal exploits of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, as well as the many other drug kingpins who plagued the country through the years.”
