Dense Hillary doubles down on ‘deplorables’; no regrets for infamous comment that helped seal her fate

Ah, the historic “basket of deplorables” remark, that September 9, 2016 gift from Hillary Clinton that kept on giving, and giving, and giving to Donald Trump until he eventually won the presidency.

Sure, it may not have single-handedly won Trump the election (that was Russia and Comey, right Hills?), but it certainly galvanized a critical segment of the Trump voter base to the extent that they weren’t about to let hell or high water get in the way of doing everything possible to prevent that pant-suited, sanctimonious hag from getting anywhere near the Oval Office.

The next day, the then-candidate called her words “grossly generalistic,” and regretted the word “half.” Then, after the election, she admitted she had “stepped in it” with the comments.

But almost a year later, after more than a few stiff drinks and walks in the woods, Clinton has decided to stick with her original generalization, with a slightly new twist.

Because why not? After all, she has apparently decided she’s never running for president again!

During an interview with CBS’ Jane Pauley to promote her new book, “What Happened,” Clinton denied the comment had any effect on the election’s outcome.

“Why do you think that word ‘deplorable’ was circulating in your mind?” Pauley asked.

“I thought Trump was behaving in a deplorable manner,” Clinton responded. “I thought a lot of his appeals to voters were deplorable. I thought his behavior, as we saw on the ‘Access Hollywood’ tape was deplorable. And there were a large number of people who didn’t care. It did not matter to them.”

“You fed into that though, when you said ‘basket of deplorables,’ you energized…,” Pauley said.

To which Clinton interrupted adamantly: “No, but they were already energized.”

“But you offended some people who didn’t personally feel deplorable at all,” Pauley said.

“I don’t buy that, I don’t buy that. I’m sorry I gave them a political gift of any kind, but I don’t think it was determinative,” answered Clinton.

Not so fast! From the Daily Caller:

Despite Clinton’s denials about the impact of her comment, an internal study conducted on behalf of her campaign suggested that voters were turned off by the quip.

Diane Hessen, the author of the internal study, found that after Clinton’s remark, “all hell broke loose” among the group of voters she was tracking at the time.

One participant in the study, a Pennsylvania man named George, told Hessen that he was “outraged” by Clinton’s comment.

“George told me that his neighborhood was outraged, that many of his hard-working, church-going, family-loving friends resented being called that name,” Hessan wrote an op-ed reviewing her findings.

“You know, he said, Clinton ended up being the biggest bully of them all.”

After Clinton’s ‘determinative’ statement, Pauley nodded, smiled, and said, “It was a gift.”

Indeed, and one for which we ‘deplorables’ are eternally thankful!
