Over one beer! Scores of students suffer when school officials freak over an open can at HS football game

That was one powerful beer!

When a beer can suddenly appeared in front of school personnel monitoring the student section during a high school football game, authorities sprang into action with such efficiency, Heinrich Himmler would have been impressed.

“Scores” of students — about 75 — were pulled from the bleachers of a Randolph High School football game Friday night in New Jersey after the beer can “either fell or was thrown,” according to The Daily Record.

The students were sequestered in classrooms and soon-to-be outraged parents were contacted and told mandatory alcohol screening was required.

According to Superintendent Jennifer A. Fano, failure to comply is treated as a positive test result and will result in a suspension from school, The Record reported.

Meaning the children had to go for urine and blood work at a medical facility within two hours, or face a suspension of up to five days.

Randolph High School Class of 2018 President Nate Pangaro posted about the ordeal on Facebook: “Before the game could begin, an administrator went to the front and told everyone to be quiet. He announced that he found an opened beer can on the ground that rolled to him, and that someone should confess to (whose) it was before everyone was taken in for a breathalyzer test.

“No one confessed, so people went into the school each row at a time to be tested.”

Hospital emergency rooms were reportedly “overwhelmed” by the flood of students.

At least the gestapo tactics weren’t for naught, as it appears evidence of drinking was found, according to a statement from Fano posted on the district website. The testing also resulted in a few positive results for alcohol.

“Upon further investigation, several other containers of alcohol were identified,” the superintendent said in the statement. “There were also other indicia that the students in this section had consumed alcohol. As educators, we are charged with enforcing policy. The law requires that we send students out to be tested when it appears that they may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”

Note the use of “indicia” — word of the day.

On a good note, the chaos didn’t prevent the Randolph Rams from winning the game.
