Actor Kirk Cameron believes there is a greater “purpose” and message behind Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
While some celebrities have used the mega-storms to point to climate change, with actress Jennifer Lawrence even blaming Mother Nature’s wrath on President Trump, Cameron had his own weather views he shared in a video he posted on Facebook.
The former teen star best known for his “Growing Pains” role told his over 2.4 million followers that hurricanes are “a spectacular display of God’s immense power” and they are not random.

“How should we look at two giant hurricanes coming back to back like this?” Cameron asked in the video he filmed from the airport in Orlando, Fl. on Thursday. “Do we write them off as coincidence? Do we write it off as a statistical anomaly? Wow! Who would’ve thought? Is it just Mother Nature in a bad mood?”
He read a Bible passage from the book of Job about storms and continued.
“One thing we know about hurricanes and all weather is that this is not mother nature in a bad mood. This is a spectacular display of God’s immense power,” he said. “When he puts his power on display, it’s never without reason. There’s a purpose. And we may not always understand what that purpose is, but we know it’s not random, and we know that weather is sent to cause us to respond to God in humility, awe and repentance.”
Floridians were responding to the impeding category 5 Hurricane Irma by evacuating by the thousands as the unprecedented storm made its way through the Caribbean toward the US coast. Following on the heels of mega-storm Hurricane Harvey which devastated Texas, Irma is packing winds over 160 mph and is expected to make landfall on the southern state by Sunday morning.
Cameron, who was apparently also on his way out of the Sunshine State ahead of Irma, said the hurricanes should remind us that God “supplies our life, breath and everything else so that you and I reach out to him.”
He also told his viewers they should use his comments as a way to answer their children’s questions about the storms.
“Remind them that God is the blessed controller of all things,” he said. “He is the one who gives us peace, security and strength in the midst of the storm and that he uses this to point us to him and to his care for us.”
Cameron’s video has already been viewed over 468,000 times and garnered nearly 3,000 comments on Facebook.
