Tough-talking sheriff warns sex offenders won’t be allowed at hurricane shelters. Naturally, Dems lose it

Is there any doubt that the heir apparent to now retired Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio as “America’s Toughest Sheriff” resides in the state of Florida?

Turning to Twitter, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd make it clear Wednesday that he will jail fugitives who show up at Hurricane Irma shelters in his county.

The tweet cautioned: “If you go to a shelter for #Irma, be advised: sworn LEOs will be at every shelter, checking IDs. Sex offenders/predators will not be allowed.”

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said it will be checking IDs at the shelters to ensure that criminals and sex offenders do not slip in.

But Judd is not one to be preoccupied with political correctness or coddle criminals. When commenting on his deputies shooting a cop killer 68 times in 2006, he said: “I suspect the only reason 110 rounds was all that was fired was that’s all the ammunition they had. We were not going to take any chance of him shooting back.”

More recently, Judd said after arresting four armed robbery suspects in 2015: “If you surrender peacefully, that’s the way we prefer it. You start pointing guns at us, you can not only plan on, but you can guarantee that we are going to shoot you.”

Seizing on heightened emotions over President Trump ending DACA, Democrats like Florida state Rep. Carlos Smith where quick to shamelessly conflate the warning with illegal immigration — it’s not clear what part of “sex offenders/predators will not be allowed” Smith failed to understand.

Speaking of liberal ideologues, some bemoaned the fact that the criminal element would not have shelter to seek in the face of a powerful storm, but Sheriff Judd was one step ahead of them.

In a separate tweet, he promised that “we’ll gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail.”
