CNN’s Camerota is absolutely relentless trying to get Gov. Abbott to bash Trump – and STILL fails miserably

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was not taking the bait as CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota tried repeatedly to get him to bash President Trump.

Camerota launched into the “New Day” segment with the Republican governor with a question about Trump’s visit to the state Tuesday to see firsthand the damage wrought by Hurricane Harvey.

“Tell us about the president’s visit to the state. Tell us what he accomplished,” she asked.

“Well, it was very important for the president to show up and to show how much he cared about the state of Texas, about our citizens, and about his commitment to helping Texas get through this emergency process and then rebuild,” Abbott replied.

“But as far as the president himself is concerned,” he added, “I got to visit with him at length and see both his compassion and his commitment to helping Texas get through this process.”

Like the rest of her liberal media colleagues, Camerota then took aim at the president for not being “compassionate” enough, attempting to get the governor to agree with the critics who whined that Trump did not meet with victims of the storm.

“Do you think that the president should have talked more about the victims? I mean, when you talk about his compassion, obviously there is some criticism today that he didn’t talk enough about the victims, he didn’t reach out to them enough,” Camerota said.

“Well I know that he talked to me at length about the victims. And about the devastation that he saw and what the people were going through,” Abbott countered. “He and I together were watching on TV the flooding that was occurring in Houston. He didn’t want to go to that location because he didn’t want to interfere with it. But he expressed his sorrow and deep concern about how these people’s lives have been completely inundated, and his compassion and commitment to help them to respond.”

Camerota launched another attempt while the CNN banner at the bottom of the screen read: “Trump visits Texas, doesn’t mention victims.”

“Did you want him to call on, to put out the word for more help?” she asked, but Abbott didn’t bite,

“We talked about where we’re going to go from here and what needs to be done from here to take care of the challenges that Texans are going to be facing for months and for years to come,” he said. “And we began to talk in detail about how we will continue to work seamlessly to make sure that we address these ongoing challenges.”

No one could accuse Camerota of not being persistent. She switched gears in another attempt to get Abbott to criticize the president.

“The Pentagon says the US Government has 30,000 troops at the ready, ready to serve Texas and are just waiting for the green light from you to send them. Are you giving them the green light today?” she pressed.

“Sure, its hard for you all to know what goes on behind the scenes, let me bring you up to date,” the governor said.

Camerota was relentless, then again pressing the governor who surely had a full plate of responsibilities to make better use of his time than being baited by CNN. She asked is “today is the right time” and even brought up Mexico’s offer to help with sending in troops to assist, but Abbott again brilliantly answered the questions without falling into the trap.

“We already have on the ground National Guard from countless states, across the United States. And let me use this opportunity to thank all these states. I can’t even list them all because so many have been involved in this process,” he said. “But again, as we speak, we have these conversations from the president to his cabinet to the Department of Defense — and have the right strategies in place to make sure that we have the right personnel in place.”
