Arpaio responds after Trump pardon: ‘I’m not going down without trying to defend myself … people will be shocked’

Former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio vowed to expose the liberal abuses of the judicial system against law-abiding people who enforce federal immigration laws.

Arpaio made the statement shortly after being pardoned by President Trump, who cited his 55-year history of public service in making his decision.

“I love that president. He supports law enforcement,” Arpaio told Fox News anchor Sean Hannity (video below).

“I’m very humbled. I’m going to have a news conference early next week to get to the bottom of this, to show the abuse of the judicial system in politics. I’m not going down without trying to defend myself.”

Arpaio added:  “I think people will be shocked that the news media were trying to destroy me for all these years [simply for enforcing the law].”

Hannity said he was relieved by the presidential pardon. “I’m very relieved for you, you’re 85 years old,” Hannity told Arpaio. “You have dedicated your entire life to public service. You came under fire for obeying the laws of the land.”

Arpaio was convicted in July 2017 of criminal contempt for defying a federal court order demanding he stop traffic patrols that allegedly targeted Latinos suspected of being illegal immigrants.

Until recently, Arpaio was the sheriff of Maricopa Country in Arizona, a border state where illegal immigration is a huge problem that has brought a tsunami of illegal drugs and violent gang members into the state.

Joe Arpaio thanked President Trump on Twitter, where he decried the “political witch hunt” of Deep State forces that are promoting illegal immigration.

By now, it’s well-known that liberals and Democrats promote illegal immigration not because they’re tender-hearted humanitarians, but because they want illegals to vote in lock-step with their party. It’s a power play, pure and simple.

Liberals were furious that President Trump pardoned a law enforcement officer for trying to enforce immigration laws. But they said nothing when Barack Obama pardoned scores of terrorists and convicted felons from the detention camp in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (a.k.a. – “Gitmo”).
