Colbert gets snookered by Scaramucci; communication wasn’t a strong skill for Mooch after all

Maybe communication wasn’t a strong skill for Anthony Scaramucci after all.

The former White House communications director apparently made multiple “exclusive” interview arrangements with media outlets that ended up conflicting.

Stephen Colbert shared his big scoop on Wednesday, announcing that he had landed the first interview with Scaramucci since he was fired last month after only ten days on the job.

“I have an announcement right now about an actual exclusive interview that we’re going to have Monday,” Colbert said on “The Late Show” Wednesday.  “Everybody wants this fella, right? Everybody wants him. Nobody got him — but us.”

“I can’t believe it. We got the Mooch,” Colbert added.

But it was too good to be true for the late night show host.

ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos tweeted that he actually had landed the first interview with Scaramucci.

Stephanopoulos reportedly had the interview booked already before Colbert made his announcement, network sources told the New York Post’s Page Six.

Apparently, Scaramucci’s team wasn’t “on the same page,” leading several of them to book “exclusives” without consulting each other first. The former communications director reportedly has a “large circle” of assistants working on his schedule and interview appearances, according to Page Six.

“We think [Colbert and Stephanopoulos] are both great journalists, and Scaramucci is looking forward to both interviews,” a representative for Scaramucci told Page Six.  “They’re very different and we think they complement each other well.”

Scaramucci tweeted that he was looking forward to both appearances, making no mention of who landed the “first” interview.

In the fanfare announcing the interview, Colbert referred to Scaramucci’s description of himself as being more of a front-stabbing person than the backstabbers in Washington.

“It’s going to be fun,” Colbert said. “We’re going to be talking. I’m going to ask like what it’s like inside there, how loyal he feels the president is now? We’ll do some front-stabbing. It’ll be a lot of fun.”

Scaramucci didn’t miss a beat and tweeted that he would bring the late night show host a special gift.
