A mysterious couple who crashed a New Jersey wedding after playing a serious game of “chicken” came forward after a plea from the bride on Facebook.
Carly Wolfson and Ritchie Barry’s goal was to create the most memorable first date ever, crashing the wedding of Karen Fox and Michael Tufo last week, CBS2 New York reported.
“We laughed. We were like, oh my gosh, we got wedding crashed. That’s funny,” Fox told CBS2. “I want to shake their hands and tell them, good job.”
The mystery couple left behind several clues, including a Polaroid snapshot and a card reading, “Congratulations, sorry for crashing your wedding and best of luck” with a dollar bill enclosed. The bride set out to find the couple and posted a request on her Facebook page to encourage the duo to come forward.
“I messaged her on Facebook apologizing. I was like, I’m so sorry,” Wolfson said. “She was like, don’t be sorry. Best gift ever.”
The gracious bride’s message on Facebook said she wanted to meet the couple and just “buy them a drink.”
“I’d like to thank everyone who shared our special day with us… especially these 2! Fox wrote, including a photo of the wedding crashers and their card. “Well played my friends… well played!!! I need to meet these people and buy them a drink.”
Wolfson revealed that she didn’t think Barry would go through with the first date dare.
“I didn’t think he was going to go through with it. I was just like, I’m picking you up at this time, what’s your address? Get ready!” she said. “And he came out all dressed up. So I was like, alright I guess we’re doing this.”
They planned their outfits and their backstory, ultimately blending in with wedding guests and appearing in many photos throughout the festivities. They even got seated at the best man’s table after they mentioned that there were no place cards for them.
“I walked in and was like, oh there’s no place for us at our table. So they put a seat down for us at the best man’s table,” Wolfson told CBS2. Once the celebration got underway, Wolfson said her and Barry just acted naturally.
“I was like, OK what would I do at a wedding? How do I fit in? Pulled up everybody at the table to come dancing,” she said.
Wedding guest Marisa Fatzer revealed that the pair was “in the center of the circle, just dancing all over the place, like right up in our face and photobombing every picture that we took.”
Throughout the event, Wolfson and Barry managed to avoid a direct encounter with the bride and groom, finally ending their first date with a photo and note to the newlyweds.
The new bride told CBS2 that if all goes well for the rogue guests, they may find her crashing their wedding in the future.
