CNN has been battling charges that it’s the “Fake News Network,” thanks in part to President Donald Trump, but it appears that news is not the only suspect quality at the network.
Turns out, the “alleged” fake news narrative is being complimented by reports of fake Twitter counts.
…to the tune of 17 million!
According to TwitterAudit.com, 48 percent of the followers on CNN’s verified Twitter account are fake, giving the network an audit score of 52 percent — for what it’s worth, BizPac Review’s audit score is 94 percent.
Twitter Audit, which is not affiliated with Twitter, states on its website that it “takes a sample of up to 5000 (or more, if you subscribe to Pro) Twitter followers for a user and calculates a score for each follower. This score is based on number of tweets, date of the last tweet, and ratio of followers to friends.”
“We use these scores to determine whether any given user is real or fake,” the site explains. “Of course, this scoring method is not perfect but it is a good way to tell if someone with lots of followers is likely to have increased their follower count by inorganic, fraudulent, or dishonest means.”
First reported by Breitbart News, the story drew plenty of passionate responses from the faithful… here’s a sampling from Twitter:
