A Reagan appointee who often leans left on social issues, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy is considered the court’s “swing vote” when it comes to any number of decisions important to both conservatives and liberals. He gave us Heller, a key decision for Second Amendment rights, but he also gave us Obergefell, which redefined marriage as something different from what it’s been for thousands of years.
So naturally, the prospect of a Kennedy retirement is bound to be scary for liberals hellbent on ruining the country, because it’ll be tough to implement a totalitarian socialist police state with that darned Constitution, and a court that believes in interpreting it as the founders intended, in the way.
Elizabeth Wydra, president of the leftist Constitutional Accountability Center, calls Kennedy “the most important man in America” because “He is the vote that swings the court on the most important cases that reach it.”
Leftists didn’t like Gorsuch, of course, but in the end his appointment was just holding serve. Another conservative appointment to replace a liberal or even the moderate Kennedy would be taking the fight to the enemy in a way that would more than make up for any gaffes President Trump may make from now through 2024.
And libs know it, which is why even the remote possibility of Kennedy retiring is scary:
Just a reminder: there's a chance Kennedy announces his retirement on Monday, paving the way for the end of Roe.

According to Hayes himself, and several on his Twitter feed who mentioned that Kennedy has hired clerks for next term, odds are it probably won’t happen…
lots of talk in conservative legal circles. Ex clerks of his think he might, though odds are that he won’t is how I’d handicap it.

But either way, just the possibility has libs in a tizzy, and is driving many to drink!
