What kind of a vile human would start a ‘Hunt Republican Congressmen’ hashtag after shooting? A Dem strategist

A New Jersey Democrat strategist has made an unbelievable excuse for why he began a vile hashtag campaign after the shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise last week.

James J. Devine, who once ran for mayor of Rahway, N.J. and has worked on local and presidential campaigns, started the #HuntRepublicanCongressman hashtag after Rep. Scalise and others, including police, were shot in an ambush attack as they practiced for a charity baseball game on Wednesday.

Devine now claims the hashtag was a metaphor for “hunting” Republicans out of office and he just happened to choose the time right after dozens of Republican congressman were shot at to start it, N.J.com reported.

“I’m not advocating violence, but I’m saying I understand it,” he told N.J.com by phone. “I can recognize why it’s happened, because this is the predictable and preventable outcome of 40 years of increasingly vitriolic, violent, corrupt and corporate-controlled rhetoric. This is the chickens coming home to roost.”

He refused to apologize for the insensitivity of his remarks when asked.

“I really apologize to any Republican snowflakes out there wringing their hands on Fox News because I hurt their feelings. That’s the apology,” he said. “‘I don’t have time for political correctness’ is the President’s mantra, so don’t ask me to play by different rules. I’m not going to unilaterally disarm myself in the face of maniacs.”

Devine cited the already debunked theory that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s map showing Democrats in crosshairs had something to do with the shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords.

“Typically I don’t throw fire when fire is thrown at me, I throw water,” he said. “But when normal people try to have a rational political discourse, they are silenced. Hence, when it becomes necessary to fight fire with fire, I’ll do that.”

But his excuse that he meant to tell people to hunt Republicans out of office came apart when he explained to NJ.com that the shooter, Tom Hodgkinson, was using the Second Amendment as a remedy for a tyrannical government.

“You can’t try to kill people and expect them not to get angry,” he said, referring to the Republican’s plan to repeal and replace Obamacare. “You can’t govern in secret and expect them not to get angry. Tom Hodgkinson used his Second Amendment remedies. That’s not the way to do this, a violent revolution is not a good thing, but he was a guy who first tried to effect change through positive action.”

Social media bashed Devine and the hashtag.
